Global Browser Brain: Google Pushes Gemini into Seven New Frontiers

Google just made a massive move to dominate the international browser market. On Monday, the tech giant announced that it is bringing its Gemini in Chrome feature to seven new countries. If you live in Australia, Indonesia, Japan, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, or Vietnam, your browsing experience is about to get a whole lot smarter. This expansion brings the AI assistant to both desktop and iOS users in almost all of these regions. Japan is the only outlier for now, where the rollout focuses solely on the desktop experience.
This update is part of a much larger plan that Google started last year. They began by adding a small floating window for AI help, but they have quickly moved toward total integration. Earlier this year, Google introduced a sidebar assistant that actually talks to your other apps. By using the Personal Intelligence feature, you can connect Gemini to your Gmail and Google Photos. This means you can ask the sidebar questions about your own life, like “When is my flight to Manila?” or “Show me photos of my cat from last summer.” It pulls the answers right into your browser without you ever having to leave the page you are on.
A Browser That Does the Work for You
The goal here is to turn Chrome from a simple window into a personal secretary. Beyond just answering questions, the new sidebar can handle your scheduling. You can tell Gemini to set up a meeting in your Calendar or check specific location details using Google Maps. If you need to send a quick follow-up, you can even draft and send Gmail messages without opening a new tab. For creative people, the sidebar also includes Nano Banana 2. This tool allows you to transform images you find on the web instantly, right within the Chrome interface.
Google is moving fast to catch up with its initial U.S. launch back in January. After seeing success there, they expanded to India, Canada, and New Zealand in March. Now, with this latest push into seven more major markets, Google is making sure its AI is the first thing people see when they go online. They want to make sure that “searching” for information is a thing of the past. Instead, they want you to just “ask” your browser to find it or create it for you.
The Next Level of Automation
While the basic Gemini features are now available in these new countries, Google is still holding back its most powerful tool for a smaller group. The company is currently testing an “agentic” feature. This is a higher level of AI that can actually take control of your browser window to finish tasks on your behalf. Instead of just telling you how to book a hotel, it could technically do the clicking for you.
Right now, this advanced automation is only in the testing phase and is limited to users in the United States who pay for the AI Pro or AI Ultra plans. However, if the current rollout schedule is any indication, it won’t be long before this “auto-pilot” mode follows the other features across the globe. Google is betting that the future of the internet is not just about browsing content, but about having an AI agent that manages your digital life for you. By planting these seeds in seven new markets today, they are ensuring that Chrome remains the most powerful tool in your digital kit.
