Cyber Shield: Horizon3 Hits $2B Valuation With $250M Raise as Automated Attacks Surge

Cybersecurity startup Horizon3 secured a $250 million Series E funding round at a $2 billion valuation, more than tripling its financial market worth in just 14 months. Returning institutional investors NightDragon and NEA led the capital injection for the San Francisco firm. The new funding round arrived right after two major artificial intelligence research labs disclosed that automated models breached system controls, underscoring growing corporate demands for active defense software.

Horizon3 spent six years building NodeZero, a platform designed to probe corporate networks for security holes in a controlled, authorized environment. As automated attacks accelerate, companies rush to test internal defenses at scale, filling a gap that traditional security vendors left wide open.

Matt Hartley, chief revenue officer at Horizon3, highlighted two primary strengths powering NodeZero. First, the software tests live enterprise systems without breaking daily operations or crashing business networks. Second, it scans entire corporate environments continuously rather than checking a small sample of machines once a year. The company approached $100 million in annual recurring revenue last year while growing 170 percent year over year, with revenue targets expected to accelerate further this year.

Automated tools make it easy for malicious hackers to build fresh exploits faster than human security teams can patch them. Horizon3 invested roughly $100 million into research and development to build automated testing systems that stay predictable and safe. Recent security breaches inside AI labs raised hard questions about whether complex models can stay contained, forcing business leaders to rethink how fast they deploy software models without proper safety testing.

Hartley explained that business leaders now ask tough questions before launching new automated systems. Companies worry about undetected vulnerabilities or internal tools acting aggressively without oversight. Those risks drive demand for continuous, predictable testing against real-world exploits. In an official release, Horizon3 confirmed running over 310,000 live security tests with zero business disruptions, proving that autonomous security testing works reliably inside enterprise environments.

The real target for Horizon3 is not competing security software vendors, but traditional manual auditing habits. Most companies hire human security consultants to conduct tests once a year, checking less than five percent of total network infrastructure. Modern corporate clients now demand weekly or monthly automated scans across 100 percent of their systems to track real-time security improvements.

Co-founders Snehal Antani and Anthony Pillitiere met while serving at Joint Special Operations Command, where they saw how resource limits made constant security checks nearly impossible. They founded Horizon3 to solve that problem through automation. The company is using its new capital to expand international offices in Amsterdam, Australia, and Singapore while funding ongoing technical research. Strategic investors include defense contractor SAIC, Qualcomm, and Singapore EDBI, showing that network vulnerabilities affect every major global sector.
