Enterprise Automation Unbound: Google Unleashes Agentic AI Across Workspace and Cloud Systems

Google Cloud introduced a unified agentic platform designed to bring autonomous action directly into its Gemini ecosystem. Announced during a Google Cloud event, the new agentic framework moves past basic conversational answers, enabling software agents to plan complex workflows, write code, book travel, schedule calendar meetings, and execute tasks across enterprise software systems from a single interface. The launch lands as tech giants pivot toward fully autonomous digital workers, competing directly with consumer agents like Meta’s Muse, ChatGPT’s Operator, and Anthropic’s Claude computer use capabilities.

Google holds a massive distribution advantage as it rolls out agentic tools to global businesses. Google CEO Sundar Pichai highlighted that Gemini serves over 1 billion monthly active users, while nearly 90 percent of Fortune 500 companies currently use Gemini Enterprise across their organizations. Launching first for business accounts allows Google to address core enterprise requirements around access security, system scale, and execution reliability before expanding agentic features to consumer accounts.

Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian detailed how the new agent accepts broad business goals rather than simple step-by-step instructions. The agent creates execution plans independently, selects custom tools, and connects directly into a company’s internal databases to complete assigned objectives. By default, the system routes tasks to the best-suited model, but users retain total control to choose specific alternatives, including Anthropic’s Claude models or open-source foundation models.

Employees can feed complex files, project folders, code repositories, and custom prompt instructions into the agent. The system connects seamlessly across Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Slack, Jira, Confluence, GitHub, BigQuery, Databricks, Postgres, and Snowflake. Furthermore, the agent integrates natively with Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers operating across internal corporate networks. Users track ongoing agent tasks through a dedicated Tasks Inbox dashboard that displays real-time execution steps, sub-agent delegation, custom skill loading, and live progress reports.

To integrate naturally into corporate workflows, each agent receives its own dedicated Google Workspace account with a distinct email address, internal context, and organizational profile. Employees can assign tasks by tagging the agent, sending direct emails, sharing files, or adding the agent to group chat channels. Every action executed by the agent creates a clear audit log attached directly to its account identity, giving security teams full visibility over system access and data modifications.

Early corporate testers include global brands like On, Shopify, and PayPal. Other major enterprise clients expanding Gemini deployments include BNP Paribas, Bradesco, Merck, Orange Spain, Santen Consumer, SOMPO, Ulta Beauty, and Wesfarmers. To help organizations manage compute budgets, Google introduced flexible pricing models featuring multi-model orchestration, smart request routing, and real-time spending limits.

Giving autonomous agents dedicated corporate accounts, database access, and cross-platform permissions changes daily office operations fundamentally. Shifting software from passive chat interfaces into active digital coworkers allows businesses to automate repetitive administrative pipelines, speed up software development, and process data across fragmented cloud applications. Building strong audit logging, spend controls, and multi-model flexibility ensures enterprises can adopt agentic workflows without giving up system security or operational control.
