Tap to Build: Roblox Drops Mobile AI Tool That Turns Text Prompts Into Playable Worlds

Roblox just announced a massive shift in how people create digital worlds. The company is launching a new mobile feature called Build, which lets users design entire games directly from their smartphones using artificial intelligence. The update removes the old requirement of sitting at a desktop computer to code, making creation accessible to anyone with a phone.

The Build feature allows you to type simple text descriptions to generate a basic, functional game. You do not need any coding or programming experience to make it work. For example, if you type an idea like, “Let’s make a cozy adventure game set in a dense forest,” the tool immediately builds a starting version of that world. From there, you can jump in to edit the details, tweak the mechanics, and share the final creation directly with your friends. A mix of different artificial intelligence systems powers this tool. Roblox uses both open-source models and its own custom code to handle everything from game mechanics and environmental layouts to character designs, visual styles, and background music.

Tech giants like Google, Microsoft, and Tencent have built similar text-to-game tools recently, but this rapid shift is causing a lot of worry in the gaming community. Many developers and players argue that lowering the barrier to entry so drastically will flood the platform with cheap, repetitive, low-quality games, a phenomenon critics call AI slop. It also creates intense pressure for human creators. Instead of just competing against other developers, they now have to compete against a non-stop wave of machine-generated content that takes seconds to build.

These worries are backed up by real data. A recent survey from the Game Developers Conference called the State of the Game Industry revealed that over half of all gaming professionals believe generative intelligence is hurting the industry. Specifically, 52 percent of insiders expressed negative views about how these automated systems affect their work and the market.

Roblox plans to fight this potential flood of low-effort content by changing how it recommends games. The platform will rank these new creations based on player retention. If people log in, play the game, and keep coming back, the algorithm pushes it forward. If a game fails to capture an audience, it will simply fade away. The company stated that its discovery systems highlight projects with long-term engagement, which keeps the home page fresh. The engineering team believes this setup encourages creators of all skill levels to focus on making fun experiences rather than just spamming the marketplace.

The new software enters a public testing phase on July 28. The initial trial will target verified users in New Zealand who are at least nine years old. Creators who are sixteen and older will get the extra ability to publish their work to the worldwide Roblox audience. The company will offer a basic version completely for free, alongside separate premium options. Roblox is also working on automated virtual testing assistants that can play through games to find bugs and provide analytics data before launch. This mobile builder highlights the company’s heavy spending on custom models, including a text-to-3D scene generator that builds completely editable virtual spaces from a single sentence. The announcement arrives just as Roblox shelves its old avatar video calling tool, Roblox Connect, which it launched back in 2023.
