Beyond the Ecosystem: Roblox Breaks Free With AI Creation Tools and External Web Play
Roblox revealed major upgrades during its annual Roblox Developer Conference, rolling out fresh creation tools, expanding automated non-player characters, and allowing users to play community games across web browsers outside the main application. The company is also launching financial products for developers, including a dedicated Roblox Card and Roblox Wallet.
Roblox expanded access to its generative creation suite, named Realm. First introduced in July, Realm allows creators to build environments using simple text prompts. The tool originally launched in New Zealand, but Roblox is now bringing it to developers in Serbia and Singapore. The platform is also adding desktop controls, a asset library, and iterative design sliders. Later this year, a text-to-scene generator will join the Roblox Studio suite.
Roblox wants community creations to reach players everywhere. Developers will soon package games as standalone applications for phones, personal computers, and consoles while using Roblox as the underlying game engine. Before the end of the year, players can jump directly into custom worlds through simple web links inside standard browsers.
Expanding outside the central app changes how creators reach audiences. Instead of locking players inside a closed ecosystem, Roblox acts as an open game engine powering external titles across the web.
New creation features also extend to non-player characters. Developers can program characters to play through game levels alongside real users. Later this year, creators can add offline modes, allowing users to keep playing titles even when internet connections drop.
Additional social updates include a mobile Friends Chat tab equipped with real-time voice typing. Roblox also updated its content discovery algorithm to suggest quick, short-play titles to younger users while recommending longer games to older players.
Roblox is expanding its game engine to support 2D game creation. Developers can build side-scrolling titles using an orthographic camera view, animated image containers, and direct sprite-sheet importing. Inside the Moments vertical video feed, viewers can tap character avatars to buy matching avatar clothing items instantly.
To support developers making a living on the platform, Roblox is launching dedicated financial systems. Since 2012, community creators earned over 6 billion dollars, with payout totals hitting 1.7 billion dollars over the past twelve months alone.
The new Roblox Wallet lets creators receive cash payouts by the end of each business day, with easy transfers to external bank accounts. Roblox partnered with Airwallex to handle financial transactions for US creators aged 18 and older, with plans for global expansion. Next year, the company plans to issue a physical Roblox Card so developers can spend earnings anywhere major cards are accepted.
Roblox continues to see massive daily usage. Founder and Chief Executive Officer David Baszucki noted that players logged over 29 billion hours across 180 countries last quarter. Giving developers better tools and flexible payout systems ensures Roblox remains a primary hub for game development.
